Professional Experience

Direct user interface development for new and redesigned applications at the United States International Trade Commission, which provide information on trade, tariffs, and intellectual property. Mentor junior developers on CSS and UI development.

• Created the USITC Design System, a set of reusable components, patterns, and tools to facilitate rapid development of high-quality web applications with a consistent, clean user experience.
• Build applications using Angular and a custom design system using design tokens, Sass, CSS Grid Layout, RESTful APIs, and other modern front-end technologies.

Led front-end development for the federal IT Dashboard and related applications used by the OFCIO to collect, analyze, and distribute information related to federal information technology spending.

• Created data visualizations using D3.js to help users across multiple audiences (including federal agencies, Members of Congress, and the general public) understand complex data relationships.
• Modernized an application built using older technologies and multiple frameworks to improve its user experience, accessibility, and drastically improve page load times.

Served as the lead user interface designer and developer for the MAX application platform in the Budget Systems Branch at the OMB. Dictated standards for user interfaces and front-end development.

• Created the MAX Design System to unify the user experience across more than a dozen applications built using multiple technology stacks and maintained by the MAX team.
• Led projects across federal agencies to design and build accessible user interfaces for web applications used in the creation of the US federal budget, using disparate technologies such as AngularJS, Ext JS, Java, PHP, Drupal, and more.

Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer

Co-founded this part-time web design and development firm that provided full-service online solutions to develop concepts, branding and supporting technology for both new and redesigned websites and web applications. Created fully custom WordPress themes and plugins to support individual clients’ goals.

Managed a team responsible for designing and implementing the user experience across several high-traffic ecommerce websites. Evangelized the use of new technologies to improve both product development and end-user satisfaction.

• Spearheaded the company’s move toward responsive design for all its websites, aligning the user interface and branding, and greatly improving the user experience on mobile devices.
• Supervised internal and third-party development teams building new product features and new websites.

Led the development of new features and products and served as liaison between Marketing and IT. Acted as creative lead for overall corporate branding and worked with teams to develop new brands and products from concept to launch.

• Collaborated with the Chief Marketing Officer to successfully create an industry-specific vertical search engine brand, leading to a new revenue stream for the company.
• Conceived and implemented the company’s first content management system integration, allowing business users to quickly execute their strategies without relying on development and release schedules.

Web Developer
